The ambition: complete, learning-first, and free per trade
"Best" is a big word, so here is exactly what we mean by it. A great practice app should teach as well as simulate, work for learners who do not think in English, include emerging markets such as NEPSE and not only the biggest exchanges, keep you safe, and never charge you per click. We are not claiming a trophy. We are publishing the checklist we build against, in 15 things to look for in a paper trading app, so any reader can test StockYatra, or any other app, against it.
1. Three markets, with coins converted on every trade
StockYatra has three boards: Nepal, India and Forex. Switch markets with one tap on the Trade, Markets, Movers, Sectors and Heatmap screens. Prices are live-simulated and move twice a second, so you can practise entries, exits and stop-losses at any hour.
How the coin conversion works
Your balance is in virtual coins. When you open a trade, StockYatra converts the local price into coins at that market's rate and saves the rate with the trade, so your profit and loss stay consistent until you close it. Nepal prices are 1 coin per rupee. At the time of writing, Indian prices convert at 1.6 coins per ₹1 and Forex-board prices at 137 coins per $1. One balance, three markets, no confusing wallets.
2. Lessons in your language: 117 lessons, 3 languages
The StockYatra Academy has 57 short courses and 117 lessons, from NEPSE basics and Meroshare to candlesticks, RSI, position sizing and trading psychology. Every lesson opens with an explainer video you can watch in Nepali, English or Hindi, with captions. That matters: a hard idea lands faster in the language you think in. 3. A Watch feed that teaches in minutes
Every video in the app lives in one swipeable feed: short Nepali help videos for each screen, safety videos about scams, all the lesson explainers and clips from creators. You can like, comment, share to a friend and save for later. The full tour is in learn the stock market in the Watch feed.
4. Weekly leagues, streaks and a daily Bull-or-Bear call
Practice only works if you come back. Every week you join a group of up to 30 traders in one of five leagues, Fox, Bull, Cheetah, Tiger and Lion. Trades, lessons, quizzes and a daily market call earn league points; the top of each group moves up and the bottom moves down. A streak keeps count of your active days, with freezes for the days life gets in the way. Details in weekly leagues, streaks and the daily call.
5. Yatra Bazaar: cosmetics earned, not bought
The Bazaar sells profile frames, titles, banners, chat bubbles, name colours and trophies for virtual coins, from 30,000 coins up to 10 crore. 6. A community with moderators and scam protection
Verified traders can talk in Global chat, add friends and send private messages. The rules are firm: no buy/sell tips, no "sure-shot" calls, no spam. Only StockYatra links are tappable, abuse is masked automatically, anyone can report a message and moderators can remove it, mute or ban. The app also carries short safety videos, and a !! chat shortcut posts a card reminding everyone that StockYatra never asks for money, OTPs or bank details. 7. Nepal tools: an IPO tracker and real NEPSE data
For Nepali investors, StockYatra includes an IPO tracker covering IPOs, FPOs, right shares, debentures, mutual funds and auctions, with open, closing-soon and allotment statuses and a step-by-step Meroshare guide (track Nepal IPOs and apply on Meroshare). A separate NEPSE Live Data section shows real indices, sector sub-indices, market summary, gainers and losers. It is view-only and kept completely apart from the simulator: you look, you do not trade it.
8. Price alerts and shareable trader profiles
Set an alert above or below any price and StockYatra notifies you once when it is crossed, even with the app closed. Your public trader profile has its own link on the web trade terminal with a preview card showing your rank and win rate, so you can share progress with friends without sharing screenshots.
9. Promote & Earn for creators
If you make a public post or video about StockYatra, you can submit the link. The team reviews it and rewards approved posts with 1 to 10 lakh practice coins. The rules are strict: original content only, and never any claim of real money or guaranteed profit.
10. Always free per trade
StockYatra never charges a coin per trade. You start with 10,000 free virtual coins and earn more through learning, leagues, the daily call and rewards. Why that matters is covered in always free to trade.
How StockYatra compares with a basic simulator
We describe other tools by category only, and we explain the common gaps in what global paper trading apps miss. Many global tools are excellent at charts or at one big market. What they rarely do is teach a Nepali or Hindi speaker, include NEPSE, and give a beginner a safe community and a daily reason to return, all in one place.
How the pieces fit together
