Why the app says “Forex” — and what it really is

Simulated US stocks, not currency trading. In the StockYatra app this board is labelled “Forex” because it is the one priced in a foreign currency (US dollars). Everything on it is a US-listed company share — Apple, Microsoft, NVIDIA and so on — with prices simulated around their real-world levels. There are no currency pairs, no real dollars and no real shares.

The 30 stocks span big tech, chipmakers, banks, healthcare and household brands listed on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq. See the live board →

US market hours in Nepal and India time

The regular session on NYSE and Nasdaq runs 09:30–16:00 Eastern Time, Monday to Friday, except US market holidays. Because the US moves its clocks and South Asia doesn't, your local times shift by an hour twice a year.

Regular session (09:30–16:00 ET) in local time

Extended hours (Nasdaq)Pre-market 04:00–09:30 ET, after-hours 16:00–20:00 ET; brokers' own windows vary
SettlementT+1 — one business day after the trade (since 28 May 2024)

In 2026, US daylight time runs from 8 March to 1 November. The close lands after midnight in Nepal and India, so it is the next calendar day locally.

StockYatra's practice board runs around the clock, so you don't have to stay up late — the real session times are shown in the app only as an open/closed marker for learning.

How dollar prices turn into coins

Practice coins are pegged to the Nepalese rupee. US prices stay in dollars, and when you trade, the cost is converted at a fixed, round educational rate of $1 = 137 coins. Orders can be fractional, in 0.1-share steps.

$180 × 0.4 shares × 137 = 9,864 coins

Profit and loss come back in coins at the same rate, and the order ticket shows the exact coin cost before you confirm. The rate is fixed for practice and does not track the real exchange rate.

Frequently asked questions

What time does the US stock market open in Nepal?

The regular session is 09:30–16:00 Eastern Time. In Nepal that is 19:15 – 01:45 NPT while the US is on daylight time (mid-March to early November) and 20:15 – 02:45 NPT the rest of the year. The close falls after midnight, on the next calendar day in Nepal.

What time does the US stock market open in India?

19:00 – 01:30 IST during US daylight time (mid-March to early November) and 20:00 – 02:30 IST during US standard time. India does not change its clocks, so the shift comes entirely from the US side.

Why is the US board called “Forex” in the StockYatra app?

Because it is the board priced in a foreign currency — US dollars. It is still a stock board: you practise with simulated prices of US-listed company shares such as Apple, Microsoft and NVIDIA. It is not currency trading and there are no currency pairs on it.

Can I buy a fraction of a share?

In StockYatra practice, yes — US orders can be placed in 0.1-share steps, so even high-priced stocks fit a small practice balance.

Do I need a US brokerage account to practise?

No. StockYatra is a practice simulator with virtual coins. No brokerage account, dollars or KYC are needed, and no real shares are bought or sold.

What does T+1 settlement mean in the US?

US stock trades settle one business day after the trade date. The SEC moved the US market from T+2 to T+1 on 28 May 2024.
