Why a paper-trading app, and why from Nepal
Most first-time investors in Nepal and India learn the market with their own money, and most of them learn by losing it. There was no practice ground that spoke their language, ran on their exchange, and treated learning as the product rather than a funnel to a brokerage.
StockYatra is that practice ground. It runs on a live-simulated engine anchored to real price levels, so the mechanics — orders, stop-losses, leverage, P&L — feel exactly like the real thing while nothing is at stake. Lessons are in Nepali, Hindi and English. The community is moderated for learning, not tips. And because a market is a market anywhere, we started with NEPSE and added India's NSE and US stocks.
How it makes money
The app is free to use, with no ads and no per-trade fees. Revenue comes from optional coin top-ups (Rs. 100 = 1,000 practice coins), course unlocks, and a cosmetics shop — none of which are needed to learn, and none of which turn practice coins into real money. StockYatra is not a broker, exchange or adviser and executes no real trades.
The team
StockYatra is built in Kathmandu by Lacspace, a product studio that also builds and ships software for clients across Asia. Everything you see — the trading engine, the apps, the lesson videos, the community tools — was designed and built in-house.
