Cookie Policy
The cookies and local storage StockYatra uses, what each is for, and how you can control them.
At a glance
- We use a small set of cookies and browser storage to keep the site working, remember your preferences, and understand usage.
- We do NOT use advertising, retargeting or cross-site tracking cookies.
- Strictly necessary cookies are always on; functional and analytics storage you can control.
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser, but blocking necessary ones can break parts of the site.
- Questions: [privacy@stockyatra.com](mailto:privacy@stockyatra.com).
1.What Cookies and Local Storage Are
This Cookie Policy explains how StockYatra — the website, and any related service (together, the "Service") — uses cookies and similar technologies. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
- 1.1A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store and send back on later visits. Cookies let a site recognise your browser, keep you signed in, and remember choices between pages.
- 1.2"Similar technologies" include local storage and session storage — small stores of data your browser keeps for a site — and web-storage keys we set for the same practical purposes as cookies. In this policy, "cookies" is shorthand for all of these unless we say otherwise.
- 1.3Some of these are set by us ("first-party") and a small number by the limited providers we rely on ("third-party"). We describe both below.
2.How We Use Them
We use cookies and local storage for a small number of clear purposes:
- 2.1In summary, we use them to:
- keep the Service secure and working as you move between pages;
- remember your preferences, such as your chosen light or dark theme;
- understand, in aggregate, how the Service is used so we can improve it.
- 2.2We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles, to track you across other websites, or to sell your data.
3.Strictly Necessary Cookies
These are essential for the Service to function and cannot be switched off through our controls. They are always on.
- 3.1Strictly necessary cookies support core operations, including:
- session cookies that keep you signed in and preserve your session as you navigate;
- security cookies that help protect against fraud and cross-site request forgery;
- load-balancing cookies that route your requests to a healthy server.
- 3.2Because the Service cannot work properly without them, these do not require consent. If you block them in your browser, sign-in and other core features may stop working.
4.Functional and Preference Storage
These remember choices you make so the Service feels consistent. They are not essential, but they improve your experience.
- 4.1We save your chosen appearance in a browser local-storage key named "sy-theme" so the site keeps your light or dark theme between visits. This key stays on your device until you change the theme or clear your browser storage.
- 4.2We use a short-lived, one-per-session flag so that a prompt inviting you to download the mobile app is shown at most once during a browsing session, rather than repeatedly.
- 4.3Blocking or clearing this storage is safe — the Service still works, but it will forget your preferences and fall back to defaults.
5.Analytics Cookies
We use privacy-respecting product analytics to understand how the Service is used and to measure performance.
- 5.1These help us count visits, see which pages and features are used, and measure Core Web Vitals — loading, interactivity and visual stability — so we can make the Service faster and clearer.
- 5.2Analytics data is used in aggregate. We look at trends across many people, not at identifying what any single, named individual does.
- 5.3We do not use analytics to target advertising or to follow you onto other sites.
6.No Advertising or Cross-Site Tracking
- 6.1We do NOT use advertising, retargeting, marketing or cross-site tracking cookies. StockYatra shows no third-party ads and runs no ad-network pixels.
- 6.2We do not join advertising exchanges, and we do not share cookie identifiers with data brokers or ad networks.
7.Third-Party Cookies
- 7.1A small number of cookies may be set by the limited providers we use to run the Service — for example our analytics provider. We only work with providers whose use aligns with this policy.
- 7.2Where a provider sets its own cookies, that provider processes the data under its own terms and privacy notice. We describe the categories of provider we rely on — such as hosting, analytics, email and payment providers — in our Privacy Policy.
- 7.3We do not permit these providers to use cookies set through our Service for their own advertising or cross-site tracking.
8.How Long They Last
Cookies and stored data fall into two lifespans:
- 8.1Session cookies and session storage last only until you close your browser or tab. They are used for things like keeping you signed in during a visit and showing the download prompt at most once per session.
- 8.2Persistent cookies and local storage remain on your device between visits, for a set period or until you clear them. The "sy-theme" preference and most analytics identifiers are persistent.
- 8.3The exact lifetimes vary by cookie. You can always inspect and delete any of them through your browser's settings.
9.Managing and Disabling Cookies
- 9.1Most browsers let you view, block and delete cookies and clear local storage through their settings or privacy menu. You can usually choose to block all cookies, block third-party cookies only, or delete cookies when you close the browser.
- 9.2You can clear the "sy-theme" key and other site data at any time from your browser's site-settings or storage panel.
- 9.3Blocking or deleting cookies is your choice, but blocking strictly necessary cookies can break sign-in, security and other core features, and the Service may not work as intended.
10.Do Not Track
- 10.1Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no common industry standard for how sites must respond, so we do not currently take separate action in response to these signals.
- 10.2Regardless of any such signal, we do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and you can control cookies using the browser controls described above.
11.Consent
- 11.1We set strictly necessary cookies without asking, because the Service cannot function without them.
- 11.2Where the law requires consent for non-essential cookies, we ask for it before setting them, and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time through your browser controls or any cookie settings we provide.
- 11.3Continuing to use the Service does not override a choice you have made in your browser to block non-essential cookies.
12.Changes to This Policy
- 12.1We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The current version is always the one published at stockyatra.com/legal/cookie-policy, and the effective date at the top reflects the latest revision.
- 12.2Material changes will be notified through the Service or by other reasonable means. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
13.Contact
- 13.1Questions about cookies or this policy: privacy@stockyatra.com. For how we handle personal data more broadly, see our Privacy Policy.
