Broker commission slabs

The rate depends on the total transaction amount and applies to the whole amount (not in parts like income tax). Minimum commission is Rs 10. These SEBON ceiling rates have been in force since 14 May 2024 (Jestha 1, 2081).

Up to Rs 50,0000.36%
Rs 50,001 – 5,00,0000.33%

Institution10% (unconfirmed)10% (unconfirmed)

Individual rates have applied since 22 September 2026, when a Gazette notice cut them from 10% / 7.5%. CGT is charged only on profit — the sell amount after fees minus your total purchase cost (WACC) — and is deducted by the broker. The institutional rate is widely reported as 10%, but we could not confirm it from a primary source after the 2083/84 changes.

Worked example

Buy 100 kitta at Rs 500 = Rs 50,000.00. Commission 0.36% = Rs 180.00, SEBON fee Rs 7.50, DP Rs 25 → total cost Rs 50,212.50.

Sell at Rs 600 = Rs 60,000.00. Commission Rs 198.00, SEBON Rs 9.00, DP Rs 25 → receivable Rs 59,768.00. Profit Rs 9,555.50; CGT at 5% = Rs 477.78 → net profit Rs 9,077.72.

Fees bite hardest on small trades: on a Rs 2,000 buy, the Rs 25 DP charge alone is 1.25%. Practise sizing with virtual coins before paying real fees.
