How StockYatra Grew 12× in One Month (and 1,000 People Opened It in a Day)

August: 124 new traders. September: 1,593. On 28 September, 1,014 people opened StockYatra in one day. Here is what changed, what we shipped, and what we think actually drove it.

StockYatra's store listings went live in August 2026. That month, 124 people signed up and placed 2,102 practice trades. In September the numbers were 1,593 sign-ups and 8,032 trades — 12.9× and 3.8× month on month. On Sunday 28 September, 1,014 people opened the app in a single day. This is the honest account of what happened, including the parts that were luck.

In short

  • Sign-ups: 4 in July, 124 in August, 1,593 in September (12.9×). Trades: 2,102 → 8,032 (3.8×).
  • Daily actives went from 96 to 512 to 1,014 across three days in the last week of September.
  • What we shipped in September: lessons with videos in Nepali/Hindi/English, a Watch feed, global chat with moderators, leagues and streaks, an IPO tracker, price alerts, a Rate Us reward.
  • What we think drove it: content in people's own language, a community that is safe by design, and shipping every day.

The numbers, month by month

Ladder chart of new StockYatra sign-ups per month: July 4, August 124, September 1,593
New traders per month. September is 12.9× August.

Two caveats before the story. First, the base was tiny: 12.9× of 124 is still a small company. Second, September is not over in this dataset — the snapshot is from the 29th. Live figures are on the investors page and update every few minutes, so you can check whether the curve held.

What we shipped

Timeline of StockYatra launches from August to late September 2026: store launch, price alerts and watchlist, global chat and friends, lesson videos in three languages, Watch feed, leagues and streaks, IPO tracker, Loved by Users and Rate Us reward
Roughly one meaningful release per week. Retention followed the releases, not the marketing.
  • Early September — price alerts, watchlist, full stock pages. The app went from a toy to a tool.
  • Mid-September — Global chat, friends and direct messages, verified-only, with moderators and automatic masking of abuse. Chat has passed 1,297 messages; users have sent 1,118 friend requests (383 accepted so far).
  • Late September — 117 lessons with explainer videos in Nepali, Hindi and English, then a swipeable Watch feed for every video in the app.
  • Weekly leagues, streaks and a daily Bull-or-Bear call. The day we shipped leagues, daily actives went from 96 to 512.
  • Nepal IPO tracker with Meroshare guides, Loved by Users, and a coin reward for an honest store review.
Key idea: We did not run ads. Every new user in September came from the app being shared, the store listings, search, and the blog. Growth followed the product, not a campaign.

What we think drove it

1. Content in the language people think in

Almost every stock-market learning resource is in English. Our lessons open with a video in Nepali or Hindi. Sign-ups and lesson completions both jumped the week the videos went live. This is the least surprising and most important lesson: people learn money in their mother tongue.

2. A community that is safe by design

Nepali investors are surrounded by tip groups and pump-and-dump Telegram channels. Global chat has the opposite rules: verified accounts only, no tips, moderators, only StockYatra links tappable. That made people comfortable inviting friends — and the friendships graph shows it.

3. A reason to open the app tomorrow

Leagues, streaks and the daily call gave the app a daily shape. Daily actives doubled in the 48 hours after leagues shipped and doubled again the day after. A simulator on its own is something you try; a league is something you return to.

4. Shipping every day, in the open

We published an update article for every release and answered every store review. Users noticed. Several of the store reviews mention a feature that had shipped that week.

What did not work, or not yet

Retention is the honest gap. 301 traders placed one trade and stopped; the median trader has placed about three. Referrals are small — 29 sign-ups came through invite codes — because we only put the referral screen in front of people late in the month. And our country data is thin: most accounts have not told us where they are, so "traders in several countries" is the most we can claim.

What is next

October is about the "three trades" problem: a better first week, more lessons in Nepali, a public trader profile worth sharing, and a native app update. If you want the numbers as they happen, they are on the investors page. If you want to help, the best thing you can do is install the app and tell us what is confusing.

Key takeaways

  • 124 → 1,593 sign-ups and 2,102 → 8,032 trades from August to September, with no paid acquisition.
  • The three biggest levers were lessons in Nepali/Hindi, a safe community and a daily habit loop.
  • Retention, not acquisition, is the next problem: the median trader has placed three trades.
  • Every number here is live on the investors page, so the claim can be checked next month.

Method: counts are from StockYatra's production database on 29 September 2026. "Traders" are registered accounts; "practice trades" are orders placed in the simulator. All trades are paper — virtual coins, no real money. Nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell anything.

Frequently asked questions

Did StockYatra pay for ads in September?
No. Growth in September came from sharing, the App Store and Google Play listings, search and the blog. We may run campaigns later; when we do, we will say so.
Are the daily-active numbers reliable?
We started measuring daily actives on 25 September, when the leagues launched, so we only have a few days of history. The 1,014 figure for 28 September is a count of distinct accounts that opened the app that day.
Where can I verify these figures?
The investors page reads the same production database and updates every few minutes: users, traders, trades, daily actives and the month-by-month table.
Is StockYatra raising money?
If you are an investor or partner and want to talk, write to hello@stockyatra.com. The investors page has the numbers and a short description of the business model.
