Bonus share price adjustment calculator
After book closure for a bonus issue, NEPSE adjusts the share price down so your holding is worth about the same with more shares. Here's the exact adjusted price — and how many bonus shares you get.
- Price dropRs 78.00
- Bonus shares you get25
- Total shares after125
- Holding value beforeRs 39,000.00
- Holding value after (at adjusted price)Rs 39,000.00
- Bonus tax (5% of face value)Rs 125.00
Formula as published by NEPSE/ShareSansar; last verified 6 October 2026. NEPSE's own adjusted price is final.
The formula
Example: Rs 390 with a 25% bonus → 390 ÷ 1.25 = Rs 312.00. If you held 100 shares (Rs 39,000), you now hold 125 at Rs 312.00 = Rs 39,000.
Bonus shares are taxed at 5% of face value (25 × Rs 100 × 5% = Rs 125 in this example), usually withheld from an accompanying cash dividend.
Good to know
- The adjustment happens after book closure, using the closing price before it.
- Fractional bonus shares are handled by the company's rules (often sold/paid in cash or rounded).
- Bonus shares reach your demat later and are listed separately before they can be sold.

Frequently asked questions
How is the share price adjusted after a bonus?
Adjusted price = market price ÷ (1 + bonus%). A 20% bonus on Rs 600 gives 600 ÷ 1.2 = Rs 500.
Does a bonus share make me richer?
Not at the moment of adjustment — you own more shares at a proportionally lower price. Future returns depend on the company.
Is tax charged on bonus shares?
Yes, 5% of the face value of the bonus shares.
